How to Require an Email Address Before Clients View Your Proposal
How to turn anonymous proposal opens into identified leads — what the email gate looks like, how disposable addresses are blocked, and how captured emails appear in your analytics.
The "Require email to view" feature adds an email gate to a specific proposal's tracking link. Before the PDF opens, the viewer must enter a valid email address. This turns anonymous opens into identified leads.
Available on Pro plan and active trial users.
How to Enable It
- Open a proposal's analytics page from your dashboard
- Scroll to the Proposal settings section
- Toggle Require email to view on
The change takes effect immediately for all future opens of that proposal's tracking link.
What the Viewer Sees
When a visitor opens a gated proposal link, they see a name and email form before the PDF loads:
- Name field — optional, same as ungated proposals
- Email field — required. Disposable and temporary email domains are blocked; a clear error message is shown if one is entered.
Once submitted, the PDF viewer opens immediately. The viewer's email is stored and associated with their session.
Viewing Captured Emails
Captured emails appear in two places:
- Session list — the viewer's email is shown alongside their name and session data on the proposal analytics page
- Nudge alerts — email alerts include the verified viewer email, so "Acme Corp opened your proposal" becomes "sarah@acme.com opened your proposal"
Disposable Email Blocking
Nudji maintains a blocklist of over 120,000 known disposable and temporary email domains (services like Mailinator, Guerrilla Mail, 10 Minute Mail, etc.). Emails from these domains are rejected at the gate with a message asking for a work email.
Personal email addresses (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo) are accepted — blocking personal email would frustrate genuine clients, since many people legitimately use personal accounts for business communications.
Returning Viewers
If someone has already submitted their email and opens the link again, the gate is skipped and their stored email is automatically associated with the new session. They don't have to re-enter their details on every visit.
If the link is forwarded to a colleague who hasn't submitted before, they'll see the email gate.
Disabling the Gate
Toggle Require email to view off on the proposal's analytics page. Existing captured emails remain in your session history. Future visitors will see the standard name-only prompt.
Plan Considerations
The gate is enforced server-side based on your current plan. If your plan changes:
- Downgrade from Pro: Existing gated proposals become ungated automatically. Visitor sessions continue to be tracked, but the email gate is no longer enforced.
- Upgrade to Pro: You can enable the gate on any existing proposal immediately.
